Richard J. Evans, 93, of Branford formally of Madison, beloved husband of the late Shirley Evans, passed peacefully on Saturday December 30 2017 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford.

He was born April 1, 1924 to Harold & Edith Evans and grew up in in the New York Catskill Mountain area, where he began his love of golf. From Liberty High School he then enlisted in the United States Army in 1943, serving as Technical Sergeant of Company K 415th Infantry Regiment until honorable discharge in 1945. Richard J. Evans, 93, of Branford formally of Madison, beloved husband of the late Shirley Evans, passed peacefully on Saturday December 30 2017 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford.

He was born April 1, 1924 to Harold & Edith Evans and grew up in in the New York Catskill Mountain area, where he began his love of golf. From Liberty High School he then enlisted in the United States Army in 1943, serving as Technical Sergeant of Company K 415th Infantry Regiment until honorable discharge in 1945. After serving in World War II he then married and resided in Madison Ct for many years. He was a member of the VFW and the Madison Country Club. After retiring in 1990 he resided in Florida until recently.

He is survived by his three children. Jane Amadeo and her husband, Peter of Northford, John Evans of East Haven and James Evans and his wife Mary of Branford. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his son Richard J Evans Jr. and daughter Judith Ann (Evans) Milum.

Friends may call on Thursday January 11 from 5-7 pm at the Swan Funeral Home 825 Boston Post Road Madison CT 06443. Funeral Service on Friday at 10 am at the Swan Funeral Home in Madison. Burial in West Cemetery with full military honors.
